Samtgemeinde Lüchow

The Samtgemeinde Lüchow (Wendland) in the southern district of Lüchow-Dannenberg and  is located in the triangle of Hamburg, Hannover and Berlin.

The city of Lüchow is characterized mainly by the “half-timbered impressions” of the old town. Anyone who commits only the Lange Straße from west to east or vice versa encounters rare uniformity and balance in the architectural style.

In front of this historic panorama, Lüchow (Wendland) now represents a county seat with a population of 9826 people and a modern middle center, is it the seat of the circle management and  the Samtgemeinde administration.

The notion “Rundlingsdorf” defines a kind of village, in which the houses are arranged around the village square. In the Wendland, these villages are best preserved and maintained. The “Rundlingsmuseum” in Luebeln is definately worth a visit.

The Nemitzer Heide is a popular destination for visitors of Wendland. Its unaffected nature offers the perfect place to relax and lean back. You can find the Nemitzer Heide in the middle of the villages Trebel and Nemitz.

This 500 hectare recreation area owns three marked trails including shelters and benches.

Beginning at the North Sea Coast via the North German Lowlands with the Central Weser Region, the Leine Valley to the Weser Hills, you are welcomed by towns that all have an independent timber frame character. Not only the different building materials available are responsible for this.

The various cultures of coastal inhabitants, people living along rivers and in uplands are reflected in the buildings themselves.

The towns are characterized by century-old crafts and became known beyond the German borders through their trading and beer brewing traditions.

Many places are the scenes of century-old customs, legends and myths that come alive again in medieval town festivals.

Exploration by bicycle, best from south to north, is particularly recommendable on this part of the German Half-Timbered House Road. The cyclist will reach the mouth of the River Elbe from the hilly south of Lower Saxony without any larger slopes travelling along secondary roads and country lanes.

The Stones Fan Museum in Lüchow in an unique museum. It was founded by the maybe most senior Rolling Stones Fan of the world: Ulli Schröder. Over an area of approx. 1000 square metres true fans can discover amazing exhibits of the band and their former members. On the first floor you find next to the “groupie room” equipped with whirlpool and golden taps, an archive space with workplaces and a VIP-room (for musicians, who perform in the museum).

The baroque garden in Künsche is open from may to october daily from 9 am to 6 pm and was voted the seventh most beautiful garden in the north.
